Loading and Design

TUFF-LITEs are designed to be loaded vertically upright or horizontally, (laying on the back.)  There is a nice aluminum brace which quickly locks the door hatch open to make it easy to replace or remove your instrument. Basses can be loaded with or without the soft cover.  Even without the soft cover on the bass, there are thick felt pads which protect the bass from the security straps.  The bass endpin block sits on a raised platform to avoid unnecessary shock to the bottom of the bass endpin block.  The wheels and handles are bolted to the case which makes them easy to replace.  The inside of the case uses strategically placed, light weight, high density foam blocks to pad pressure points and support for the bass.  A nylon strap system then holds the bass safely in place so that it can withstand jolts from any any angle or position.  Again, basses can either be loaded with any kind of cover on the bass, (with the belly straps going over and around) or without the cover on, (with the belly straps directly on the belly of the bass, as pictured.)  Most bassists prefer to keep the covers on during shipment for added thermo protection.

Measurements

Just about any bass will fit and work well in the Tuff-lite cases. While most of our customers play 3/4 size basses. The case easily accommodates 7/8 basses and even some pretty hefty 4/4, full size basses (email us for specific size requirements to be on the safe side.  The total length the case is 84".  The widest area (near where the lower bouts of the bass) 34" and the tip of the bridge to the back is 22". Don't forget that these cases are designed so that the bass back and sides are far away enough from the walls of the case to comfortably fit the bass, with the padded cover on and there still be lots of space in between.  This is always much safer for shipping.

Construction

The regular TUFF-LITE case is all hand laid fiberglass which is built up and reinforced at key areas of the cases that stand to get the most bangs: the wheel area, edges, bridge area and back.  The Ultra TUFF-LITE cases are also painstakingly put together by hand using special "pre-preg" carbon fibre (fiber) sheeting.  Pre-preg actually means that the fibre cloth is pre-pregnated at the carbon fibre factory with the exact amount resin evenly spread across the cloth.  This ensures evenness and balanced strength, not to mention wasted resin which will actually weaken a case and make it too heavy.  There are very few carbon fiber bass cases in the world, but we haven't seen any for less than $4,500! Security

TUFF-LITE cases can locked when need be, but more importantly, the cases actually have easy access for inspection.  This is important so that if the bass player is not present, the case can still be easily opened.  The easy, no-fuss bungee straps that enclose the case, allow access without any special key, allen wrench or tool.  Cases that cannot be inspected during various points of travel, can be delayed or even returned. In Europe, cases which cannot be opened, are chiseled open by the bomb squad!
